** We have been working on this for the past 7 months. Here is where we are:
1. District Director of Instructional Technology
long range planning, grants, consortia, business relations, staff
development, budgets...
2. District Coordinator of Instructional Technology
day to day troubles, resource allocation, staff development,
liasion to district groups...
3. District LAN support
technical support for WAN / LAN, upgrades, installs, Internet
support, staff training, instructional-management data bridges...
4. District Coordinator of Management Technology
day to day troubles, resource allocation, staff development,
liasion to district groups...
5. Each Instructional building has:
A. a full time computer lab aide in EACH full lab (CLA)
trained by the district; manages the time, space and
resources of the facility, staff training
B. one full time Building Technology Support (BTS)
trained by the district; provides all technical support for
building hardware and software; deals with outside vendors for installs,
warranty and contract repairs, staff training...
C. one full time Instructional Technology Support (ITS)
trained by the district; provides direct support for the
classroom teacher with the integration of technology tools into the
instructional design and delivery.
D. a full time library media specialist with aide(s) (LMS)
<two elem bldgs share one LMC spec>
manages OPAC, on-line Internet research, CD-ROM databases,
all print and media, inter library loan, library instruction and staff
training
It should be mentioned that all people work as a team, both
vertically and horizontally, and there is considerable overlap of time and
efforts. We anticipate having all the support infrastructure in place
within the next three years. We currently have the LMS, building CLAs and
all the District pieces in place and are starting now to implement the BTS
and ITS positions.
We have 6 buildings, 1 admin bldg and over 4000 students. You can
not run a sophisticated computer LAN/WAN/CWAN without trained support
staff. You must plan for the people to support the staff. **
