We have gone through this process a couple of times. We find the following
method is simple and works well.

1) Establish requirements based on the kinds of documents you typically
generate. Specify which requirements are from which document type.
2) Get six teachers, two who have used WP only, two who have used WOrd only,
two who are novices and have used neither. Have them each generate a few
examples in each document type and evaluate their experience via a focus
group in light of the requirements.
3) All things being equal (i.e., requirements are met by both), go for the
one with the easiest learning curve.
