** Yes , we have the problem A work around to the driver probelm was to
assign the proper driver name to a printer with the same name, hence HP550C
is the name for both the printer and the driver extension. The students are
instructed to select only matching sets.
The phantom printer problem was traced to the fact that our Dayna
Print Box only handles 4 printers at once, so the fifth and sixth printer
didn't show up in the chooser. Which ever printers were on, only the first
4 showed up. A partial fix was to download an extension patch which allowed
the Laserwriters to be connected directly to a workstation (print sever)
and yet be seen and used on the LAN. We now can se and use all the
printers, if you choose the correct driver.
HP was informed of the driver / printer conflict and had no fix
except to make all the printers the same model series.
