To Anyone with Microsoft Access Experience:

The school office has Microsoft Office installed on the computer.
I've been trying to help the secretary set up student records in Access,
and some of my questions don't seem to be answered by the manuals. I'd
be grateful if someone who has been using Access would be willing to
help me out.

First question(s):

Data entry: Logic tells me there must be a way to do this. I've done
it with a Mac program called Recordholder Plus, but can't figure out how
to do it all in Access. I've created an Input Mask to capitalize the first
letter of a single-word entry such as first name, but...

1. How do I either override the mask, or include an option for a double
first name like Mary Ann, or as in the case of last names, an internal
capital like MacGowan?

2. How would I write the mask for street addresses, e.g. 1600 Pennsylvania
Ave. Recordholder has the option of beginning each word with a capital
letter. Why can't I figure out how to do that here???

3. If a certain field has the same information for all records, how do I
do that so I don't have to type it each time, yet edit it if needed?

4. Is there a keyboard command to repeat data entered in the same field
of the previous record? I've been using copy and paste, but it takes time.
Ditto (sorry!) for a record where most fields are the same and I only want
to change a couple of things, like a first name, or birthdate.

I'm confused about the difference between Format and Input Mask. For some
fields (when I first started this) I used > in Format and got an initial
capital letter. Then I read more about the Mask, and used that for most
fields, except for the things mentioned above.

There's so much I don't know, and I don't do "techno-speak," so please be
patient, and help if you can. I may be out of my depth here, but I'm still
the only one who knows how to do _anything_ with Access.

BTW, I didn't just move from Mac to PC--I've used MSWorks, Paradox (DOS &
Win), Mac, and Apple DBs too.

Thanks for whatever.
