Mac Copying Errors

My son's school use Mac LC's and he has periodically reported having his
disks trashed while copying files. Being a Dos person, this seemed unusual.

I am a student this year and have been using a Mac 11 for scanning.
Twice when I have tried to copy files from the hard drive I have received
a verification error. After that I couldn't save anything. The first
time I was able to recover the files on a Dos machine and reformat. The
second time I had a Mac disk. I was able to move files off the disk and
onto the hard drive. To demonstrate the error, to someone who was sure
Macs don't do this kind of thing, I put the file that had the error in
the trash and tried to copy the file from the hard drive. It worked.

Moral
-----

If you get a verification error while copying a file, delete the copy and
try again.

The longer term solution is to get a real computer :)
