Ok, here goes, it may help, and maybe not but you might try the following:
Open up a Desk Accessory named "Alarm Clock" and turn the alarm part off.
When you open it up, if the picture on the right (there are 3) has marks
above the alarm clock, it is on. Just click on it, and the box above it
will change with the time, and you simply move the mouse to the little "T"
mark to the left of the time, click on it, and then it represents the
button on the alarm being pushed down, and disables (turns off) the alarm.
Hope this is your problem. If it is not, does it (the freezing) have a
pattern, such as the same time every day, always on the hour, half hour,
ect.... Maybe check your date & time control panel for alarms, or a
calendar program with a reminder set. Almost sounds like maybe someone
recorded a sound accidentally with the microphone unplugged, and the freeze
time is the time it takes to play the recording the Mac made of "No sound"
with the microphone unplugged. Good Luck!
