It is true, in my experience, that old versions are to be retired
(distroyed) when using an update. No argument there. At least
WordPerfect, however, has (had?) a program in which one could donate the
old version to a K-12 school and register it with WordPerfect.
Therefore, you just might contact the publisher to see if you could get
permission for the donation and use in K-12.
