I teach 5th grade in Tucson, Arizona and am STRONGLY committed to getting
Geography integrated into my District's curriculum K-12. I have been
petitioning to be "borrowed" out of my classroom for 1 year so I can be an
itinerant geography teacher-curriculum specialist-resource teacher. so far
the best shot I have is to create a geography lesson for 3rd graders based
on the 7 continents. I have them putting embrodiery floss lines of lat
and long on a stro ball, catching an inflatable globe and telling where
their thumbs land, cutting out the shapes of the continents and making
collages (from Nat. Geog cutouts) singing the five themes of geog rap, etc.
My bosses want more MULTICULTURAL activites. I ssure could use some
ideas. Any suggestions? I have develped a geography persona that I call
Miss Place. My real name is Barb Soto I belong to the Arizona Geographic
Alliance and was trained by the 30 day National Geographic Summer Geography
Institute in Washington D.C. in 1993. I am a lineserv newbie. Adios for
now Barb
