What Benefit is a WAN?

As techs and educators, we all know that there is a benefit to having a
school networked and connected to the WWW through the WAN. What I would
like to see is a written list of the benefits offered by a WAN for the
students, teachers, administrators, etc. This list could be used as
convincing arguments when attempting to secure funding and approval from the
local board of education.

I can already think of a few benefits (student research, administrative
email, etc.) but with all our thoughts put together, the list could grow.
This would assist those school districts (like mine) who are just beginning
their forays into the advantages of technology. Please reply with your list
to either me personally, and I will attempt to compile the list for
presentation to the EDTECH group at a later time.
