LC580s are shutdown from the Finder, and started by the keyboard. Many times,
students will turn them on/off at the back. This is both hard on the computer,
and it might be the source of your problem/lockup. If students are shuting down
improperly, that will eventually lead to lockups.
Norton Utilities should help to prevent/cure those problems.
