I had a similar problem when we got our 5200CD. Our Mac had
terrible static no matter what we did to the volume. We called
the APPLE SOS line many times and finally they sent over a
technician to the house to look at it. He ended up putting in
a new logic board. He didn't know why it happened either, but
the new logic board got rid of the problem.
