I thought I'd let you know what our response was to my request for
helpers with EDTECH. As of today about 20 people responsed offering
help, and many others sent good wishes, though they couldn't participate
now. We've been discussing what to do this week on our internal
list EDTECH-ADVISE. It looks like there will be 4 new projects
starting soon:
1. New editors. A few people felt that they could help with the editing
for a week at a time, about once a month. I hope to see some of them begin
in the next couple of weeks. If people trade off, we hope it won't
be too big a job for anyone. We may also work it out so that it's
possible to share a week. We've been doing some interesting editing
practice among the current group of volunteers.
2. Book/Software/WWW Review. Several people are going to be on a team
that will identify books, software and possibly some WWW sites worthy of
detailed review. Then they'll ask H-NET to obtain the books, etc., from
publishers and find qualified reviewers to tell us more about them.
Look for them to give you more details on this soon.
3. FAQ creation. Though our archives are more accessible now, there
are still a lot of messages. A group is going to work on picking out
the best answers to our most frequently asked questions about
Educational Technology, and displaying them on the WWW in a format
that is easy to locate and refer to.
4. WWW design. Since EDTECH is a leader in helping educators use
technology, it seems appropriate our WWW site should demonstrate some
of what we, as a group know. We have a number of excellent WWW designers,
and others who would like to be, who have offered to improve the EDTECH
Archive site and add new features, exhibits, etc.
If any of you, missed the first announcement, but will still like to
join in with one of the teams I've listed above, please write to me,
and I'll introduce you to the others.
I look forward to seeing a lot of interesting changes and improvements
to EDTECH soon. Thanks as always to all of the excellent people who
have so kindly offered to participate in the project.
