Have any of you recently built a new technology center. If so, I would
be grateful for any information you can give me on security systems.
This is principally to secure entry and exit and to keep our equipment
from walking off. Our university is urban, in fact as far downtown as
you can get. The center will be located on the second floor of a heavily
used building. In other words anyone can walk in off the street. The
building already has a history of equipment mysteriously disappearing.
Short of cabling everything down (not possible with our equipment
checkout service) we need something to keep us secure both during and
after hours of operation. Our architect has suggested a card system with
door sensors but this is being quoted at $45,000.00. Any info on a
successful plan will be greatly appreciated.
