Lorna McCloud asked;
I am looking at different options for using a larger TV screen
instead of a little computer one when I demonstrate to my
faculty, or use a CDROM product with a class. A GOOD color
LCD panel is jut too expensive, and although I did consider the
that the CD's were not "synced" for the correct size monitor, whatever that
new Toshiba monitor-quality and computer ready TV, it is pretty
expensive for what I want, too.

Any recommendations for those hookups that you can use with a
PC and a TV? I have started looking, and they seems to cost
from $150-$450... I don't know which is the best brand, etc.

You need to be careful doing this. We set-up several "Multi-Media Carts"
consisting of a 27" TV, VCR, LaserDisk player, and MAC 6100/60 AV computers.
We tested several different ways to configure them and thought we had most
everything covered. BUT...several(most) of the CD's we have will not work
using the TV as a monitor. Something about the way the CD is set-up when it is
made causes the image to be shifted off of the screen, usually to the right and
down. The result is that "buttons" you need to access to control the
program are not visible, so you can't run the program.

It was explained to me that the CD's were not "synced" for the correct size
monitor, whatever that means! Also the clarity of the TV is not nearly what
a monitor or LCD panel are. The TV will be good for non complex graphics,
and LARGE text. Don't plan on reading text smaller than about 18 or 20 point
for any length of time. It has been suggested that we should have purchased
S-Video TV's. Maybe that would have been better, but I don't think it would
have solved the image shifting problem.

Good Luck,
