E-mail with other classrooms

A teacher in our district recently go an Internet connection in her
classroom. She has been doing quit a bit of web work. However, what
she would really like to do is to get her class to begin e-mail
correspondence with other classes around the country and world.

Any ideas on the best way to get started??
