I had the identical problem with the same circumstances. It seems that the
migration from 2.x to 3.x is too great a change, and the binderys don't
survive! Here's what I did to recover the software. There may be a better
way, but I couldn't find it, nor could our vendor. Your programs are still
in good condition in their directories, but the binderys are fouled.

First, I went through the item files for each application, both courseware
and office apps. I wrote down all the particulars, especially concerning
start commands, volume, and directories.

Next, I used the 'Remove' menu choice, and did a 'fake' remove from the
server. When you tell ICLAS to remove an application, it asks for the
original disks to be put in the A: drive. Then it reads the directory of A:
and removes only those files from the server. The fake part is that for THIS
remove, you don't put any diskettes in the A: drive. ICLAS will read an
empty directory and thus removes no files from the server. You have to do
this for each application on ICLAS's menus.

The final step is to do a 'fake' install of your applications. It is similar
to the 'fake' un-install. You use the 'Add' menu choice from the ICLAS
administrators screen, pressing 'Insert' until you get to the point where it
asks you to insert the first disk. Again, DON'T put any diskettes in the A:
drive (you already have the software on the server). The drive will run
briefly, and you say 'no' to the More Disks? query. Then ICLAS gives you the
screen where you create the item file. Here you type in the parameters you
copied in the first step. Repeat for each application.

I hope this helps you. If you would like to speak to me while you attempt a
recovery, I would be glad to talk you through one. If there is a better way,
I'd like to know too... I've upgraded 4 of our 8 servers, and had to do this
each time! My work phone number is (304)743-7473. I'm available from 7:15
to about 5:PM EST each day. I'm not always in the lab, but leave a message.
I'll be out of town and unavailable all of next week.
