Now for the next test! I have an LC 580 CD that has developed a strange
problem regarding the CD drive. When you insert a CD into the drive, it
doesn't show up on the desktop. It doesn't matter if it is an audio,
reference, etc. type of CD. Sometimes, if you start the machine with a CD in
the drive it will show on the desktop. Sometimes you can use it sometimes you
can't. BUT you can never eject it! If you try to eject it you get a -50 which
is error in user parameter list. To get it out, I shut down the machine then
hold the eject button on restart.
You can force the machine to start with a system CD by holding
shift+option+command+delete. Using the CD that came with the machine I have
done a clean install, rebuilt the desktop, zapped the PRAM, run disk firstaid,
norton diskdoctor, checked to be sure the CD extensions are in the extensions
folder. I have a PLI formatter which scans SCSI to see what is connected.
The CD shows up on slot 3 but the display says it is "disabled".
Good Luck,
(I hope you figure this out! So I can get it going again)
