Your concerns are significant. The learning environment needs to show
trust. And you should have a say about the environment that you create.
Students need to understand trust vs. security issues, but you should have
been involved in the decisions. The lack of communication is an error.
Don't compare yourself to colleagues take your stance on what you believe
in and the situation you are in. It's good to hear that you have a sence
of social responsibility in dealing with tech. and our society. Being a
teacher of tech. we need to use tech with regards to long term human
consequences.
Teach where you can, but if you have to use the lab, throw a cloth over the
camera while you are teaching and remove it for surveillance. If that's
what the camera is for, then it can still do the job. Let your union know
what is going on no matter what happens. It should be documented.
