JPEG is a "helper application" used in conjunction with your
Internet WWWeb browser program for viewing certain types (*.jpg,
*.jpeg) of still graphic images on the internet. They are in a more
compressed form that the traditional *.gif format used by many
web sites.

MPEG is also a "helper application" but it allows the Browser to
show moving images such as animation and motion video.
