Greetings to everyone! My name is Doug Peck and I've been lurking for
several months. Per request, here's a brief summary of my background
and interests. I'm what sociologists call a "marginal man." For nearly
thirty years I've been employed at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
in a variety of technical and human resources capacities. My original
background was chemical engineering but over the years I returned to
school and acquired a few degrees in sociology as well as additional
background in computer science, business administration, and history.
I'm professionally certified by the ICCP as a systems analyst and now
work as a computer applications analyst in the areas of executive
compensation and succession planning. I'm also Adjunct Assistant
Professor of Sociology at The University of Akron where I've taught in
the evening division for the last thirteen years. True to my Scottish
heritage, I can't turn down a freebie and for that reason have been
using my fee waiver to tackle an M.S. in Higher Educational
Administration. Given this hodgepodge background, one of my current
interests has to do with higher education's pursuit of its mission via
distance learning technologies. Thus, my eyes take special note of
postings seeming to deal with that topic. In closing, let me offer
kudos to EDTECH's moderators. You're doing a great job. It seems to me,
using business terminology, that you're making a significant "value
added" contribution through your efforts.
