WAV files and Macintosh?

I'm using Netscape on a Mac. Will WAV files found on the net work on my
Mac? Do I need to download a piece of software to read them? Or are WAV
files only for DOS - I do see many sites listing WAV files and -at the same
time - Macintosh sound files.
