I'm not terribly familiar with the 660C, but depending on whether it hooks
up as a direct serial connection or an AppleTalk connection you could check
the following:

General:

Is it the Mac version of the printer (HP also makes a parallel version for
PC's). I know this is kind of a dumb question, but I don't know how you
hooked it up to the LAN at work that you mention.

Direct Serial:

Is the cable plugged into the right port? Usually serial printers will let
you plug them into either the modem or the printer port, but you have to
make sure to tell it which port it's plugged into. Usually you do that in
the Chooser. If you have it plugged into the printer port, is AppleTalk
turned off, or directed at another port (an ethernet card, for example)?

Network:

Is AppleTalk turned on in the Performa and directed at the printer port?
If the Performa wasn't connected to anything before this, AppleTalk may be
turned off. You can turn it on in the Chooser, or in the AppleTalk control
panel if you're running OpenTransport.
