Re: Networking with Local Talk

In order to run one program on multiple stations simultaneously,

1. You have to spare a Mac (a good one) to use it as a server.
2. Load AppleShare 4.0 on the server to support file (application)
sharing (version 2.0 does not have enough power).
3. The application program should be nerworking version (Sometimes it
is not necessary, but most times, it is, especially for Mac).
4. Network all stations with the server using Ethernet cards and cables.
If you use 10Bset-T, you need an additional hub.

Finally, you need to set up users' accounts on the server and set up file
protection. Kids like to access anything on the server and trash them.

It seems you are just using PhoneNet or LocalTalk cables to hook up Macs
together. It can only transfer files between machines and does not
support "distrinuted process" (file sharing). The speed is extremely
slow. Even you just want to share printer with such network, you may
still feel it very slow.
