Dave,
Borland Delphi, one of the newest (and well received) programming
languages for IBM compatibles, is based on Pascal, so don't discount it
so quickly. I do agree with you that C is probably a better way to go
than Pascal, but student's will still learn important programming
concepts using Pascal. If that's what an instructor knows, there's
nothing wrong with him/her teaching that.
