We homeschool our children. They are 13 & 15. Ohio has a big convention
every year in Columbus. It is organized by the Christian Home Educators of
Ohio (CHEO). There are like organizations in most states. Not all are
Christian, bust most are. Bob Jones University has a program using
satellite broadcasting in the middle of the night.
There are some computer based programs out there but they are usually for
the (the politically incorrected referred to) slow kids (one program really
is excellent for those kids). I have heard of a CD now being pushed as
everything you need for $145. I have been told by a "dealer" I'll get to
take a look at it soon.
The most heard comment by homeschoolers is "What about socialization?"
That is the reason we pulled our kids out of the public school. They were
learning every discusting human behavior imagined (and more) from their
peers. Now people comment on how mature and responsible our kids are. They
still get plenty of opportunity to interact with kids their age, they just
don't do it in a school setting. The have also become close friends. A
"family value" we like.
"It takes a _family_ to raise a child."
You will also find there are lots of families home schooling that you can
connect with. A local fundamentalist church is a good place to find your
first connections. The local newspaper might know of families too. In our
school district of 14,000 kids we have over 200 home schooled.
