>I just read about "Dragon Dictate".
We have three Dragon Dictate stations that work with our proprietoy
keyboards and the newspaper where I work. Plug the keyboard into a
box, and our Atex system thinks it's hearing from a keyboard not a
voice program.
We have a very old (and very expenisve) version of the Dragon
board/software.
It works VERY well. Once you train it to your voice (about 10
hours as it learns as you go along), you can actually get about 40 wpm
"typing" speed.
If your nephew is very young, it will not work well. You have to
do some thinking along with using it. However, it does not misspell
words.
One thing I like about it as well is you can mis-pronounce words,
but if you do it the same way each time, after about the third time it
has "learned" that when you say "dog", you really mean "cat".
I think the latest low end (only a 32k dictionary ) version is in
the $400 range --- may be less.
We have two reporters who use them. One because she considers two
keystrokes "repetitive" but another who can work faster and more
accurately using the voice system to input his court rulings etc.
