After this started happenening after I used even one application, I called
Apple and got a very nice service representative who helped me figure out
this problem.. I increased my RAM cache to 256 and disabled all of the
extensions and control panels that I did not need. This has stopped the
out of memory messages when I access the hard drive. She said one
extension that seemed to cause 7.5.3 problems was the desktop print monitor
which puts the printer icon on the screen.

Also virus protection programs seem to conflict with 7.5.3. Because I was
having problems with SAM, I had trashed it and gone to Disinfectant.
Apparently even the latest Disinfectant version init conflicted. The Apple
representative said there was a problem with Virex as well.

Because I didn't want to download without any virus protection, I went into
the Symantec technical support message board on AOL and found I needed the
4.0.8 patch to run SAM 4.0 with 7.5.3. I downloaded it and so far
everything is OK.
