Western Illinois University Announces Graduate Level Asynchronous
Class

Western Illinois University is pleased to announce a new step
in distance learning. Through the College of Education and Human
Services and the Satellite Education Network and Interactive
Technologies, WIU is offering a graduate-level "asynchronous" course
for the Fall 1996 Semester. The course, entitled "School and
Community Relations", is a traditional graduate course (EDAD 519),
offered by the Department of Educational Administration and
Supervision. However, by offering it as an asynchronous course,
students will be able to take it without being bound to time and
place.

"Asynchronous" means that access to any remote resource is at
the student's convenience. Most traditional classes are "synchronous"
in that students must attend class at a specific time and place. EDAD
519 is being offered as an asynchronous class so that students can
take this class according to their own schedules and lifestyles.

The class will be using the same text book as the traditional
EDAD 519 course, but the lectures will be offered through a series of
videotapes which will be sent to the students. A World Wide Web page
will be used to tie information together, provide the syllabus and
content guides, link to related resources and activities, and assist
teacher-student communications. A CD-ROM will also be included for
technology help and references.

Anyone with a certified bachelor's degree may enroll in the
class, as long as they have ready access to the Internet and a VCR.
The course is worth 2 graduate credit hours. For additional
information on the course refer to the following web site:
