If you are in the middle of a much deserved summer vacation, and are
making plans to include technology in your instruction, perhaps you can
look at MathMagic, a K-12 project aimed at providing students mathematical
challenges while pairing them up with partners from across the continent
and the world.
All teachers/parents need is a team of students willing to exchange e-mail
with their partners, and some direction/supervision in consensus building.
A full program description, along with helpful files and a ***MATHMAGIC
E-MAIL*** section (actual postings) is available at:
http://forum.swarthmore.edu/mathmagic/
You don't need a web browser to participate (although we will be using
Netscape for some of the challenges - Netscape works fine without a "FULL"
Internet access account.) To procure information via e-mail please send an
e-mail message to:
mail-server@forum.swarthmore.edu
with no SUBJECT heading, just the text command:
send mathmagic_info
The project is run via a FREE majordomo listserv. For anyone wishing to
register, there is a $12/year/team fee. The main advantages of registering
is that teams of students can share with the world how they went about
solving their challenges, and if the students/teacher are up to it,
display their picture in the Internet.
Hope to see you on-line soon.
