E Phone for the Macintosh

I am considering the purchase of E-Phone or Netphone so that I can use my
Internet connection for phone calls. Because I don't yet have a
microphone, I have not been able to take advantage of a weeks' free service
from the Netphone demo.

I have heard that the only people that I would be able to contact would be
others using the same software on a Macintosh computer. Then a friend who
uses a Mac told me that it didn't matter what type of computer others used
and she had been able to contact both Mac and PC users. Also I heard that
the software requirements were System 7.5.1 and I use System 7.5. I
haven't upgraded because I am not having any problems and can't see
borrowing trouble by changing systems.

Can anyone give me any advice on this before I make a purchase?
