Some of the control panel settings reside in PRAM, some reside in resources
in various places, and some reside in preference files in the Preferences
folder in the System Folder. There does not seem to be a defining
rationale that I can see for which way they are stored, other than
information needed during startup (like the boot drive) is stored in PRAM.
