Hello Everyone,
Thanks to everyone for keeping EDTECH so active this summer!
I'm keeping up as well as I can, but as some have noticed,
the mail gets behind quite a bit. I appreciate the
offers from several people to help. We could certainly use
more editorial help.
Anyone who continues to be interested in helping edit EDTECH
this summer might write me again. I am very glad to hear from
you. The best way you could start to help is to stay in touch.
I hope to start a training program of some kind for new editors
this month. Meanwhile we could also use a volunteer
coordinator with time to write potential helpers and
explain how editing, reviews and the WWW site work, and
an e-mail expert who could work out which e-mail system
each potential editor would need to get to make editing work.
(You can edit EDTECH with only a few kinds of programs.) Most
of our volunteers get stopped by having a system that doesn't
work for EDTECH editing and no one to help them get another one set up.
We're currently showing 3322 EDTECH subscribers from at least 45
countries, plus our Usenet News bit.listserv.edtech and other Bulletin
Board readers.
If you go on vacation, it is helpful if you use the
SET EDTECH NOMAIL command to temporarily turn off your
mail while you are away (see below) You can catch up when you
get back by visiting the EDTECH archives at:
If you try to post to EDTECH from our WWW archives, please
set your browser to give your correct return address, and
also type it in the body of your message. A lot of mail is
being posted from the WWW site, and bouncing due to improperly
set WWW browsers. We can't even reply to the people, as their
addresses are nowhere to be found.
Professors who require that their classes sign on to EDTECH are
requested to carefully monitor what their classes do. EDTECH
does not post 10 almost identical copies of the same question
(for example) just because students were all required to send
it to EDTECH. Also if you could avoid using EDTECH for
list signon/signoff practice, I would appreciate it. This
fills up the editor's mail with junk. If you need a list for
signon/signoff practice for your class, contact me by private mail,
and I will try to direct you to a test list.
Please remember that EDTECH doesn't accept commercial postings.
This usually includes commercial advertisements "hidden"
in signature lines of other types of postings. Commercial
postings of any kind will ordinarily not be posted or
otherwise acknowledged. Commercial lines may be removed from the
signature lines of otherwise acceptable postings. The fact that something
that appears to be somewhat commercial sometimes gets posted,
for whatever reason, does not imply that the policy has changed,
or that any additional commercial postings will be accepted.
As EDTECH receives a lot of undeliverable mail, we have
set Listserv to delete any subscriber whose account bounces more
than 100 or messages, or who bounces mail for more than 5 days.
If you find your subscription deleted for this reason, please
resubscribe.
For those of you who need a refresher--to manage your
subscription, write to LISTSERV@MSU.EDU.
Commands:
SUB EDTECH firstname lastname to join the list
SIGNOFF EDTECH to leave the list
SET EDTECH DIGEST to receive EDTECH as a daily digest
SET EDTECH NOMAIL to temporarily stop the mail
SET EDTECH MAIL to end DIGEST or NOMAIL
REGISTER firstname lastname to change your name with LISTSERV
If you have trouble with using these commands, just write to the
editor at 21765EDT@MSU.EDU
A last reminder. EDTECH requires that every message be signed
in the body of the message (usually at the bottom) with full name and
e-mail address. No messages are posted without this information.
Please remember to put in in your postings.
EDTECH is run by volunteers who do a variety of work the editing
the list, reviewing books and software and working on the WWW site
and FAQ. Others are welcome! Please let the editor know if you'd
like to help out. If you did volunteer, but somehow didn't
get a response, please write again. Sometimes, due to volume, we
may miss someone. The best thing to do is to write again,
so that the editor has an additional change to get back with you.
Thanks again for all the useful messages during the past few weeks.
