problems. The alias problem and the open file problem are typical of a need
to rebuild the desktop. You DO rebuild about every two-three weeks with
heavy use, don't you ?

At Mac startup, hold down SHIFT key to turn off extensions, then
immediately hold down OPTION and COMMAND keys until you get a dialog box
that asks if you want to rebuild the desktop. Say yes. It will rebuild for
all the volumes you have mounted.

For really squirrelly behavior, run Norton's Disk Doctor on the HD
before you rebuild. This is normal HD / file maintainence for heavy file
use, like changing your car's oil. **
