Applications are now being accepted for a faculty rank (Assistant
Professor), tenure-track position as an Educational/Instructional
Technologist in the Henderson Library of Georgia Southern University. The
library employs twenty faculty and thirty-eight support staff. Collections
include almost 500,000 volumes, over 500,000 government documents, and over
3500 current serial subscriptions. The library utilizes the Data Research
Associates (DRA) automation system, and has a Novell-based local area
network (IBM and Macintosh) with access to the Georgia Statewide Library
System, approximately 40 CD-ROM databases, over 50 licensed databases at
other sites (including Lexis/Nexis, Uncover, and FirstSearch), and the full
resources of the Internet. There are over 340 networked computers available
for public use in accessing curriculum support software and the databases
described above. The library maintains a home page at
http://www.lib.gasou.edu. Responsibilities of the position include
overseeing the public services programs of a student computing facility
within a library environment, with over 150 networked microcomputers (IBM
and Macintosh) with access to the Internet, information databases, and
curriculum related microcomputer applications; coordinating and supervising
student and non-student employees and services; promoting the use of
electronic information technology in the curriculum; assisting faculty in
the development of technology applications; and assisting in training
library employees in technology applications. Position requires a master's
degree in Instructional Technology or a comparable degree; doctorate
preferred; knowledge of curriculum development; experience working in a
microcomputer laboratory facility; ability to establish and maintain
successful working relationships with staff, customers, and the university
community; and demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Active
participation in at least one professional organization, experience writing
grant specifications, and experience as a faculty member are preferred. The
application letter MUST describe SPECIFICALLY the applicant's qualifications
for the position. The letter MUST address (in an essay of two or three
paragraphs) the use of electronic resources in today's educational
technology environment. Finalists for the position will be expected to make
an oral presentation during the on-site interview. Salary dependent upon
qualifications. Appointment is for a twelve-month period. Position will be
