To keep it simple, if $2000 is your top $ I'd suggest you look at the
Performa 6200 or something equivalent. The one caveat would be that it
doesn't come with ethernet built in but it doesn't sound like that is a
concern for you.
Or look at the PowerMac 7200's, particularly if you can fudge up a little bit.
If all you really need is to get on line and do some word processing you
can probably save some cabbage and still have a machine that can show other
ways to use your computer if you buy a Performa 630. I suggest the Performa
models because they come with usable software bundles.
Hope you enjoy it. Shopping for computers is almost as much fun as shopping
