write-protected hard drives

Help! Two of our eight new PowerMac 7200's (running system 7.5.2) have
crashed.

They will start up, but freeze at the happy Mac face. When we booted from the
Disk Tools disk, and tried to run Disk Doctor/reinstall the system, we weren't
able to--the entire hard disk is write-protected! Any ideas?

(We run standard applications--Microsoft Office, ClarisWorks, Netscape, Telnet,
an IMAP email client, Fetch, Stuffit Expander. We have recently added new lab
management software, MacAdministrator, but they say it's not their fault! None
of our older PowerMac 7100's--which run system 7.1--have frozen.)
