The Disinfectant documentation states that scanning new software (including
downloads I would presume) or every disk that is inserted "is a waste of
time." The docs say that with the INIT installed, viruses will be detected
and blocked before they can spread. Just make sure to update your copy of
Disinfectant every so often.

As for networks, the recommendation is to put a copy of Disinfectant on all
workstations and scan frequently.
