Director of Information Systems

Salary: Administrative I ($59,736 - $63,156)

Grand Rapids Community College seeks outstanding candidates for the
position of Director of Information Systems. Reporting to the Executive
Assistant to the President, the Director is responsible for directing and
managing the Information Systems Department and providing leadership and
coordination for campus wide computing and technology. Applicants should
demonstrate a successful leadership record of progressively responsible
experience in human relation skills, knowledge of current trends in
information technology, evidence of innovation/creativity in applying
technology in a college environment. They must have the ability to maximize
the use of computing and communications, hardware, facilities and staff;
develop and administer budgets; serve as the primary resource for long
range technical, budget and economic implications for college-wide
technology systems.

Major job responsibilities:

1. Provide vision, leadership, planning and coordination for
campus-wide administrative and academic computing and infrastructure of
telecommunications.

2. Direct, supervise and evaluate staff who provide support for
administrative and academic computing, and technical aspects of
telecommunications.

3. Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and standards for
technology in conjunction with the Campus Technology Advisory Team.

4. Maintain fiscal responsibility including developing and monitoring the
budget and controlling expenditures for the Information Systems Department.

5. Coordinate the activities of the Campus Advisory Technology Team and the
implementation of the strategic plan for enhancing technology at GRCC.

6. Report to the Executive Assistant to the President.

Essential functions:

1. Build relationships with all the constituencies involved in technology
through consultation and advocacy.

2. Develop and oversee the budget for Information Systems.

3. Manage day-to-day operations of the Information Systems department.

4. Recommend actions to guide the College's technology strategic planning
activities.

5. Serve on numerous college-wide teams in varying capacities;
participate in the development of college initiatives.

6. Provide consultant services to departments/divisions to satisfy the
need, interest, or desire to develop technology applications in their area.

7. Maintain contact with regional, state, and national information
resource organizations.

8. Anticipate future technological needs; maintain an awareness of
developments in computer, communications and education technology.

9. Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Requirements:

1. Graduate degree preferred in Information Systems or related field.

2. Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in
Information Systems preferred, including supervisory and project
management experience.

3. Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.

4. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and maintain confidentiality.

5. Knowledge of networking concepts, including LAN/WAN and fiber optics.

6. Evidence of initiative, enthusiasm, innovation, and successfully
working in a team environment.

7. Understanding and willing to work in a complex, multi-platform
environment.

8. Knowledge of voice communication, processing, and response.

9. Willingness to utilize TQM/CQI quality principles.

10. Experience in an academic setting is preferred, but not necessary.
