Flash It does go in the Control Panels folder in the System Folder. When
you put Flash It in Control Panels, you will have to restart your mac to
initialize it.
Once installed, you actually don't have to open it to use it. The trick,
which, of course, is described in your manual, is to press keyboard
shortcuts to activate Flash It. For instance, you can press Cmd-Shift-3 to
activate Flash It. Flash It waits for you to draw a rectangle around the
area you want to be in the picture. Then you name the picture. Also, if you
turn Caps Lock on and press Cmd-Shift-3, Flash It will take a picture of
the entire window that is currently active (or menu, if you are clicking on
a menu when you activate Flash It).
To look at other options available, open Flash It from the Control Panels
and select HotKeys under the Select menu (toward the top). This will show
you different configurations for capturing pictures when you use certain
key combinations. (I hardly ever need to use anything other than
Cmd-Shift-3 or Caps Lock and Cmd-Shift-3. Helps keep things simple.)
The (MW) actually stands for MacWrite (I'm surprised MS Word had a problem
with that format, though.). I've got my manual saved in ClarisWorks format,
but can easily convert to MS Word. I'd be glad to send you a fresh copy
(fax, e-mail, etc.), if you still have problems opening it with Word.
Hope this helps.
