I think the following will help. It was a very valuable tip for me.
>At times I will also get an empty box with a <P when trying to print using
>the Command P command. My computer locks up and I have to turn it
>completely off and reboot. My service technician says he has never seen

>Command E command.

This was discussed recently on EDTECH. Jim Tobin (an Apple engineer) offered
this explaination: when using the power on key if it is held down too long
the 5200 "remembers" this key. When you use a command short cut, the 5200
combines this with the power on key. This invokes the debugger (the box with
a caret and the letter you used in the short cut). To get out of the
debugger, first delete the letter then type a g (for go) and press return.
You will be returned to where you were. To avoid this, don't hold down the
power on key - just press quickly. To test this out, hold down the command
and power on key. The white box will appear.
