Lisa Cramer asked about personal experience with software for linking PCs
via modem. I figured there would be a high response, but since no-one has
answered, here's a recommendation.

I use LapLink VI for Windows. It allows either unit to act as the host, has
good pass-word protection, and is extremely easy to use. As well as
transferring data, it allows either unit to run the other's programs
(assuming the memory is adequate), though this is slow, even at 28,800 baud.

There is also a 'chat' window, which is useful if you do not have a second
line and are working with a human on the other end.

LapLink also comes with two linking cables, a serial and a parallel (for
bi-directional LPT ports) which will allow you to transfer data between two
side-by-side computers.
