Mac Startup Disk

Hi all,

Here is the challenge question:

I want to create a Mac startup floppy disk that can access a Shared volume
over Ethernet.

What I want to do is totally erase and reinitialize the hard disks on my
6100 PPC's. No built in CD's and no portable one.

Then I want to connect to a Shared volume and use the 7.5.1 system CD to
put a whole new system on the 6100. I have a CD on a 5200 and can startup
sharing including the CD drive.

Here is the reason why:

I have 13 6100 running system 7.5 and assign each to a different student
EVERY Semester. I allow them to modify the OS as much as they dare. They
are responsible for them. At the beginning of each semester, I want to put
a totally clean system on each machine for the next group of kids. Some
even play with partioning so the best approach appears to be a total house
cleaning. I have 7.5.1 and wish to upgrade the machines to this OS now.

Here is what I have tried:

I have system floppies for 7.5. Using the disk tools disk, I started one
of the 6100 and used hd sc disk application to reinitialize the Hard disk
on the 6100.
Success.

I then made a disk image of the disktools disk. That has a minimum system
that does not include any appleshare extensions. It does have a cd rom
extension that is of no use to my challenge. I tossed the CD extension.

I tossed disk first aid and the hd sc disk applications to make a little
more room on the floppy. I then placed the chooser extensions (from 7.5)
that I believed AppleShare needs and also one control panel item. There
was enough room.
Success.

Finally I tried restarting the 6100 with the modified disk tools disk. The
message came up that I was using the wrong system with this machine. Huh??

I did not change anything in the system. It was a 7.5 OS that I removed,
it was 7.5 extensions that I added, and the real 7.5 disktools disk does
restart the machine. Yet, when I added the 7.5 extensions.... nothing.

Any advice will be appreciated and I will post the successful solution.

TIA
