My husband had his 5200 screen turn magenta or flash magenta (575 have been
know to have this problem too). Call Apple SOS. They'll tell you to do the
PRAM first (hold down the command, option, P and R keys on boot-up), but if
that doesn't work (which I've never seen it do) they will have to replace
the monitors analog board.

You are getting to the debugging window (the window you are referring to).
You should be able to get back to the finder by typing something like:
go to finder or finder (I forgot the exact command).
