Actually, Timothy's commentary is accurate for both platforms. SCSI
numbers still range from 0 to 7 on Macs, it's just that 0 is commonly used
for one of the internal hard drives (it doesn't have to be) and 7 is always
used for the Mac itself (Timothy correctly refers to this as the controller
in the Intel world).

Termination is most certainly essential, regardless of the device. You're
asking for trouble otherwise. In fact, active termination is the best
solution to SCSI voodoo.
