MAC Error

We have two MACs in our entire district, so all of my experience is with
networked and standalone PCs. I hope some MAC user can help with this problem:
Our yearbook sponsor is using a desktop publication for yearbook
productions and is experiencing lock-up problems.

Computer boots up.
Menu appears.
Program opens.
Can work for a few minutes in the program but when they
try to save or exit, a Line F error appears followed
by a BOMB icon.
Only turning off and rebooting is possible at that point.

I'm pretty certain this is a MAC LCs running system 7.

The sponsor isn't sure whether the hard drive is corrupt, this is a virus,
or what to do next. Any suggestions?
