Announcement of Re-opening of Search for
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Stonington Board of Education is seeking applicants for the
position of Superintendent of Schools. Stonington is a residential shoreline
community with a population of l8,000 residents. It is located in the
southeast region of the state on the Connecticut/Rhode Island border within
fifty miles of Hartford, Connecticut and Providence, Rhode Island.
Stonington includes Pawcatuck, Old Mystic, the borough of Stonington and
part of Mystic, Connecticut.
Stonington has 2,224 students in grades K-12. The school district
includes: one high school (9-12), two middle schools (5-8) and three
elementary schools (K-4). The school district offers a comprehensive,
responsive and effective educational program driven by the belief that "All
children can learn." The school district is in its fifth year of successful
implementation of shared decision-making, which involves parents,
teachers, administrators, school board members and citizens in meaningful
decisions concerning budget, curriculum, instruction, assessment and
overall school improvement. The school district budget for l99S-96 is
$16.9 million dollars. There are 176 teachers and 11.5 administrators in
the district, with 6 people in support services and 93.5 non-certified staff.
The Board of Education is using the services of Administrative
Search Advisors of Connecticut to assist in the search for a new
Superintendent of Schools. The initial reviewing of applications and
resumes will be conducted by the consultants based on the criteria decided
by the search committee. The candidates for interviews will be selected by
the search committee. This committee is comprised of all six members of
the Stonington Board of Education and representatives of the following
constituencies: administrators, teachers, parents and community.
The starting salary will be $90,000-$94,000. The initial contract will
be through June 30, 1999. The deadline for submitting applications is
February 7, 1996. The successful candidate will be selected by May 1 with
a starting date on or before July 1, 1996.
