Connecting QuickCam

I recently bought a QuickCam which must be connected to a serial port on
my Macintosh computer. I am using a data switch box with it but would
like suggestions as to which port to use -- the modem port or the printer
port. I have heard that using a switch box can cause interference in
transmitting data using the modem if the camera is connected to the modem
port via the switch box.
