Happy New Year,

Thanks to all of you for the great amount of help and information
you provide on the EDTECH list each day.

As I post this, EDTECH has 3087 regular subscribers. Many people
also read EDTECH via our Usenet News gateway bit.listserv.edtech
or via one of the many bulletin boards who redistribute EDTECH
messages. Also all messages are archived on the AskERIC Gopher/WWW
server at ericir.syr.edu. Our new WWW site, which will carry
all messages, indexed in several ways, will be formally opening soon.
We're currently working the bugs out of the automatic posting
system. Any WWW designers who would like to help, could contact
me about working on it.

Thanks to the MSU College of Education and H-NET Humanities Online
which are providing sponsoring and technical assistance for
the EDTECH list.

Have a great 1996!

A few reminders and hints. Send all administrative commands to
LISTSERV@MSU.EDU

SUBSCRIBE EDTECH firstname lastname to subscribe
SIGNOFF EDTECH to leave the list

SET EDTECH DIGEST to get only one long message daily
SET EDTECH NOMAIL to temporarily turn off mail
SET EDTECH MAIL to return to mail from DIGEST,
NOMAIL or INDEX status

Write to 21765EDT@MSU.EDU if you have problems with these commands.

If your mail can't be delivered and bounces (is returned to sender),
we will set your account to INDEX status, so we only get one bounce
per day, for a week, and then delete you from the list. If your
account starts working again, you can set it back to mail with the
command SET EDTECH MAIL

Sorry, the command REVIEW EDTECH no longer works. Too many people
were using it to grab a copy of the list and sell it, so we disabled
it. If you need to know if someone is on the list, please write to
the editor at 21765EDT@MSU.EDU

Please note: EDTECH does not accept anonymous messages. All messages
must be signed in the BODY of the message with full name and e-mail
address. WWW site, or name in the header lines at the top, is not
sufficient. Header lines can be eliminated when the message is
forwarded or requoted, and we want people to be able to contact the
original poster.

EDTECH also does not accept commerical advertisements (of which we
currently receive several a day). These will not be returned (because
I don't have time). But they won't be posted either. EDTECH is
for the purpose of providing a forum for discussion of issues relating
to the use of technology in education, and can't offer the service
of providing free advertising for commercial ventures.

Comment to those of you who just HATE our continuous PC vs. MAC
discussion (and flame me regularly for allowing it).
After years, and years, and years of it, I'm tired of
it too. But lots of people really do want to discuss this,
so I have decided that we can't censor it. Many people do find
it valuable. I have been reading your flames about it, but
have decided that those who find it valuable should prevail
for now. A characteristic of this list seems to be that we
endlessly discuss whether PC's or MAC's are better--whether some
of us want to or not. Sorry. Maybe this year will be better!/VB
