We went to H/P Laserjet 4Plus printers, through the network using JetDirect
cards. We are a Windows environment, and will never go back to other forms
of printing. Inkjet printers are fine, but we find in labs they are too
slow. Go to a 12 ppm laser and you'll love it! I converted to all lasers
this past fall in 4 labs and my teachers are very pleased. We use one laser
per 13 computers. At these speeds you can use "one" printer per lab. We
currently have to replace our cartridges at around 9,000 to 10,000 copies.
With certain software available for Macs, you can print a percentage of the
full font darkness (say, 75%) and save even more on prints.
