I had a similar experience trying to buy discontinued PowerBook 150s.
Several of the Apple resellers are not allowed to sell directly to schools.
In Apple's defense, the reason might have been to prevent schools from
unknowingly purchasing Macs at a higher price :-). Apple's educational prices
are very low for current items. Unfortunately, that policy is preventing
schools from purchasing discontinued items at bargain prices :-(
